OAILL podcast: OAILL in Hong Kong

Podcasts are virtual, right? Phil Hubbard and I were not really in Hong Kong. We were in Hong Kong virtually. We were there virtually, and Glenn Stockwell was there really. Time difference and all. In our podcast episode AI and professional development according to Glenn, Phil had warned that we were coming for him. 😉 In episode 005, Phil and I were talking about Glenn’s book chapter Professional development and learner training for AI. It is in the book Insights into AI and language teaching and learning, edited by Yijen Wang, Antonie Alm, and Gilbert Dizon. Highly recommended.

In our interview in episode 007– double-oh-seven – we asked Glenn about his proposed framework for language teacher professional development (PD) and learner training. We really appreciated his take on the interdependence of teacher PD and learner training. In a way, teachers and learners together are making sense of a powerful new technology in language education.

We did not want to let the opportunity pass and also talked with Glenn about his recent article Legal, affective, and policy dimensions of the AI ecosystem in Language Education. An important and timely topic. The article is open access in the International Journal for Commputer-assisted Learning and Teaching (IJCALLT). We were particularly interested in Glenn’s use of the Gartner Hype Cycle to begin to explain what is different with the rapid developments of GenAI.

Enjoy listening and please help us to get the word out to language teachers, learners, and enthusiasts about the challenges and opportunities of GenAI and language education by liking and reviewing the episodes, commenting on them and subscribing to them. On YouTube …
