Germany and the Legacy of the Berlin Wall — No Language Wall Between East and West

Doesn’t time fly … I self-recorded this short video on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Wall in 2009. That again is now 17 years in the past. Now the wall has been gone for longer than it stood. Subjectively, the time with the Wall felt longer – 28 years. The time without Wall seems to be racing by – 37 years. 37 years ago, many of us hoped that societies would become more peaceful and states more democratic …

In this video, I am looking back on the language change that happened in the 40 years of the two German states, divided by that Wall, and the small but quick change at the time of transitions – die Wende. Other Canadian colleagues contributed short videos on politics, economics, society, and culture at that time.

Occasionally, I take a short break from AI and neighboring villages and post something different ... Usually, something I dug up from the past.
